DISCUSSION...MULTIPLE DISCRETE AND CLUSTER SUPERCELLS ARE MOVING NEWD FROM CENTRAL MS INTO NW AL. RADAR AND SPOTTER REPORTS HAVE CONFIRMED A DAMAGING TORNADO NEAR TUPELO MS IN THE PAST HOUR...WHILE OTHER MORE DISCRETE STORMS HAVE FORMED FARTHER TO S INTO CENTRAL MS. ALIGNMENT OF THE STORM INITIATION AND SPACING OF THE STORMS IN CENTRAL MS SUGGEST THAT THESE STORMS WILL REMAIN DISCRETE FOR SEVERAL HOURS...SUPPORTING THE POTENTIAL FOR LONG-TRACK TORNADOES. ADDITIONALLY...LOCAL VWP/S HAVE SHOWN THE EXPECTED STRENGTHENING OF WIND PROFILES AND SOME BACKING OF LOW-LEVEL FLOW ASSOCIATED WITH SURFACE PRESSURE FALLS...WHICH IS BOOSTING EFFECTIVE SRH TO NEAR 300 M2/S2. STRONG TO VIOLENT TORNADO DAMAGE WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE MOST INTENSE SUPERCELLS THE NEXT FEW HOURS

“An outbreak of tornadoes appears likely”
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 108 CONTINUES. SUMMARY...TORNADO THREAT IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO INCREASE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AS NUMEROUS TORNADIC SUPERCELLS DEVELOP ACROSS PDS TORNADO WATCH 108. THE AREA FROM CNTRL MS EXTENDING NEWD INTO NW AL WILL BE UPGRADED TO HIGH RISK AT THE 20Z OUTLOOK. DISCUSSION...SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS ARE CONTINUING TO DEVELOP ACROSS CNTRL AND NRN MS THIS AFTERNOON IN RESPONSE TO STRONG UPLIFT AND DESTABILIZATION. THE ENVIRONMENT IS CHARACTERIZED BY MODERATE INSTABILITY...STRONG DEEP LAYER SHEAR AND SUBSTANTIAL LOW-LEVEL SHEAR. THE WSR-88D VWPS IN CNTRL AND NRN MS SHOW LOOPED HODOGRAPHS WITH 0-3 KM STORM RELATIVE HELICITIES IN THE 450 TO 500 M2/S2 RANGE. THIS SHOULD SUPPORT A THREAT FOR STRONG TORNADOES AS SUPERCELLS CONTINUE TO INTENSIFY. DUE TO THIS IMPRESSIVE SHEAR ENVIRONMENT...AN OUTBREAK OF TORNADOES APPEARS LIKELY AND THE AREA FROM CNTRL MS EXTENDING NEWD INTO NW AL WILL BE UPGRADED TO HIGH RISK FOR THE 20Z OUTLOOK.
A powerful thunderstorm moving northeast at close to 60mph through Mississippi with a tornado signature. Still over 95 miles from Russellville, but we’re keeping a close eye on it, especially considering the environment its in and the speed it’s moving.
HRRR model guidance shows a STP (Significant Tornado Parameter) of 10-15 in Northwest Alabama at 7 PM. This is a predicted increase in the instability and shear parameters in that part of the state just as intense thunderstorms move in. It lets us know there is a threat of strong tornadoes with the strongest super cells.
Supercell storms are moving northeast through Mississippi at close to 60mph. That would put them on course for NW Alabama by roughly 3PM… They don’t currently have a tornado warning with them, but that could change quickly.
First supercell of the day is near Grenada, Miss. This one could produce a tornado at any time. Its moving NE at 55 MPH, and this one may impact Northwest Alabama by 3 PM if it maintains this intensity.
* EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 1240 PM UNTIL 900 PM CDT. ...THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION... * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE... NUMEROUS TORNADOES EXPECTED WITH A FEW INTENSE TORNADOES LIKELY WIDESPREAD LARGE HAIL EXPECTED WITH ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER LIKELY SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH LIKELY THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 75 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 65 MILES NORTH OF HUNTSVILLE ALABAMA TO 10 MILES SOUTH OF NATCHEZ MISSISSIPPI. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU8). PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
