Moderate Risk For Severe Storms Monday
As we closer to Monday and Tuesday, the timeline for severe thunderstorms becomes a little more clear. As of Sunday morning, the greatest chance of severe thunderstorms for the Tennessee Valley will be late Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning. This is a very dynamic, slow moving storm. It might take a while for the storms to clear the Tennessee Valley. One reason why there is also a flooding concern. All of the Tennessee Valley is under a flood watch until Tuesday morning.
Here is what to look for. We aren’t expecting any organized severe thunderstorms for us today. All the action remains to our west across Arkansas and Missouri. A moderate risk for severe weather is up for that location today.
Today’s Severe Weather Outlook
As we head into Monday, a line of severe thunderstorms moves from the Mississippi Valley during the late morning and early afternoon into the Tennessee Valley Monday afternoon into the overnight. This is the main window for damaging winds, hail, flooding rains, and a few tornadoes. This is a slow mover. It will take a long time for the storms to get from west Alabama over to Sand & Lookout Mountains. Here is a broad look at the severe weather outlook for Monday and a closer look of the same graphic. This is valid Monday morning through Tuesday morning. Again, our greatest threat is late Monday into early Tuesday.

Now to the timeline: Expect a line of severe thunderstorms to enter northwest Alabama during the late afternoon on Monday and SLOWLY move eastward through the overnight. They should exit the Tennessee Valley by Tuesday morning after the morning commute. Expect the area to be under a tornado watch for several hours Monday into early Tuesday.
