Occasionally heavy rain continues — Check WHNT’s Interactive Radar

A Few Showers For Now

It has been a cloudy day with only an isolated shower here and there. Light rain fell south of the Tennessee River mainly in Cullman, Marshall, and DeKalb Counties. Rain totals aren’t very impressive for now. Only expect up to .25″ through Wednesday. Here is a look at downtown Huntsville around 3:30pm.

ARMOR shows a few showers down to the southeast around 3:30pm. Guntersville, Albertville, and Boaz got wet today. More showers fall in DeKalb County near Collinsville. I-59 from Fort Payne to Gadsden is a wet drive this afternoon. Rain chances stay low for now. Only around 20% through Wednesday. That changes later this week.

Now to the heavier rain. It’s in the forecast starting Thursday and lasting through the weekend. This is a tricky forecast. Not only with rain, but colder temperatures building in behind a cold front Saturday and Sunday. As for now, we’ll increase the chance of precipitation to 60% Thursday and keep it elevated through Sunday. The big question will be how much rain falls and the amount of cold air behind the system. As for now, we’ll go with a cold rain Saturday and Sunday with the potential for freezing rain or sleet as well. It’s too early to give specificsĀ and something to keep a close watch on if you have weekend plans outside. The rainfall totals are impressive from the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center. Upwards of 3-4″ are possible through the weekend.
