Flurries Tapering Off – Slick Spots Possible
Scattered flurries are slowly tapering off across the Tennessee Valley, with many likely still seeing a few flakes flying. Armor radar is currently picking up light snow flurries mainly south of Huntsville towards Cullman and Albertville.
More flurries are possible over the next few hours with snow showers still to our north, moving south…with only very light/minor accumulations possible in the higher terrain of northeast Alabama and southern middle Tennessee, where flurries/light snow showers may continue for much of the overnight.
Temperatures have mostly fallen to freezing or below, with a breezy northwest wind sustained between 5-15 mph, gusting greater than 15, making for wind chills in the low to mid 20s. Winchester, TN currently has a wind chill of 19 degrees!
Though the wind is making for blustery conditions, it is helping dry any remaining wet roads, preventing ice spots from developing. Some slick spots are already possible, especially in on bridges and overpasses and secondary roads on some of the higher terrain of northeast Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. Use extreme caution if traveling late tonight, early Sunday.
Clouds may struggle to completely clear overnight and may hold steady until after sunrise and the dissipate. If clouds hold strong, temperatures may stay in the upper 20s and low 30s, though if there is some clearing, they may cool into the mid 20s. Any clouds after sunrise will gradually break up, with abundant sunshine warming temperatures into the low to mid 40s Sunday afternoon.
