Cold This Morning – Milder Later

It’s a cold start to your Tuesday morning. Here are the current temperatures as of 4am. A reminder, the coldest temperature of the day typically occurs around sunrise. These temperatures are likely to drop to near 20 or slightly below that especially in northern Madison County and southern middle Tennessee. Highs today only in the middle to upper 30s with a north wind making it feel even colder than that.

Temperatures fluctuate this week as the upper pattern turns meridional. This means there will be dips and ridges in the jetstream causing readings to go up and down. Right now we are in the “dip” with temperatures in the 20s. By Thursday and Friday, a ridge takes over and our temperatures recover.  Here is an example for later this week.

The dip in the pattern slackens some allowing milder air to move north. The yellow represent milder air. It’s not likely to last as another surge of arctic air moves in for the weekend.
