Thursday Morning Update

It’s a cold rain this morning in the Tennesee Valley. However, snow is breaking out over central Mississippi. Vicksburg and Jackson have an inch of snow and several accidents have been reported on I-20. Here is a satellite view at 4am this morning.

The green is light rain in Alabama. The lighter blue is light snow in Mississippi with pockets of moderate snow west of I-55.

The forecast is on track for the rain to change to snow for our western counties around 7am-8am this morning. Then a quick change to snow for most of our viewing audience by noon today. Snow is likely for everyone this afternoon as the main upper level system drags cold air down from the upper levels. Snow totals range from a dusting to the west to up to 4″-6″ in the higher elevations of Marshall, DeKalb, and Jackson Counties.

Here is the outline of the winter weather advisory (white) and the winter storm warnings (pink)  across the area.
