Wintry Mix Being Reported
Rain mixing with occasional sleet and snow has been reported across the area this morning. The most widespread precipitation is now affecting the Shoals and Southern Middle Tennessee, but other scattered areas of light rain, snow, and sleet are beginning to develop further east. Additionally, some freezing rain has been reported in Hardin County Tennessee.
Significant accumulations of ice or snow aren’t likely, and major travel problems are not expected, however some slick spots are a possibility over the next few hours in those areas in Southern Middle Tennessee as well as on the higher terrain around the Cumberland Plateau that are below freezing.
Temperatures will slowly climb over the next few hours, gradually turning what wintery precipitation we’re seeing over to all rain. Widespread showers and occasional heavy rain are expected this afternoon through Friday evening. Rain will begin tapering for us in the Tennessee Valley after midnight as another shot of colder air moves in. Whatever precip is left when the temperatures start dropping will likely turn over to snow flurries, but again, no major accumulations are expected.
