The Next 24 Hours – High School Football Playoffs!
As the sun set on Thursday, it became apparent that it would be another foggy, chilly night for many Tennessee Valley communities, but there is good news on the way for Friday: the warm-up continues! Thursday’s high in Huntsville was 59º, but it did get to 60º in Muscle Shoals and 60º in Scottsboro. We should see a solid 5 to 7 degree increase by Friday afternoon with highs ranging from 65 to 70 degrees. The warmest air will stay west of I-65, so any lower 70s would likely come in The Shoals, Franklin, Marion, Winston or even Lawrence Counties in the northwestern part of Alabama. Sixties will be more common over the northeastern part of the state.
FOOTBALL FRIDAY PLAYOFFS: The regular season is over, and it’s playoff time in Alabama! A “broad-brush” forecast is not as applicable in the playoffs since teams (especially 4A to 6A) travel farther than normal; however, we can tell you that there will be no rain in Alabama or Tennessee this Friday night. Expect a clear sky and cool temperatures. In the Huntsville area, kick-off temperatures will be in the mid-50s with a drop down to around 50º by the fourth quarter. Rural areas will be colder; expect temperatures in the middle and upper 40s away from the larger cities by 9 PM.
