Tropical Atlantic Staying Active!
Hurricane Season still has about 5 weeks to go, and it seems like we are nowhere near the end! Tropical Storm Tony was named this evening at 10 PM; it is not expected to be a threat to land:
On the other hand, Tropical Storm Sandy is still growing slowly in the Caribbean and headed for Jamaica. Sandy could be a hurricane as it approaches Jamaica on Wednesday evening.
Sandy will be an issue for the US East Coast. She may not make a direct hit on our coastline, but there is definitely a chance she could strike the Northeast US or the Canadian Maritimes next week. The latest model guidance should be very concerning if you have interests or travel plans toward New England next week:
The European is especially concerning for New England, and if this pans out, it’s going to get unusually cold around here early next week. Temperatures could fall into the 20s if Sandy can enhance the push of cold air toward the Tennessee Valley next week!
