TENNESSEE VALLEY (WHNT) – Many of you have called the WHNT News 19 newsroom, or emailed or asked us on Facebook about the haze over north Alabama.  Many people especially see it in Marshall and DeKalb counties.

Believe it or not, it’s from a high wind and dust storm that happened Thursday across Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.  The National Weather Service says the dust plume continues to work its way eastward, through the Tennessee Valley and lower Mississippi Valley.

Most of the dust plume is concentrated below 5,000 feet.  Due to this, you’ll likely notice hazy conditions and poor air quality.

This should improve greatly by Friday evening, as the dust plume shifts to our east, according to the National Weather Service.
