The Next 24 Hours – Friday
It’s another Football Friday in the Tennessee Valley, and tonight’s games look to be the coolest we’ve seen so far this season! Everything you could possibly want to know about Football Friday (including some forecasts for specific games that you’ll see highlights of on WHNT News 19) is at WHNT.com/Football Friday!
Friday starts out chilly and only warms into the upper 60s for an afternoon high. Morning low temperatures in the lower 40s should provide a heavy dew, and there will be some patchy fog before 9 AM as colder, drier air sits over this damp, warm ground following Thursday morning’s rain. A strong area of high pressure will force a cool west-southwest breeze across The Valley on Friday as well, and it could get breezy at times! Expect wind speeds around 10-20 MPH with higher gusts by mid-afternoon.
A clear sky and less wind in the early evening will allow temperatures to drop quickly. By sunset, it will be in the upper 50s around most of North Alabama and Southern Tennessee. It gets cooler very quickly after sunset! By the time most high school games get kicked off, it will already be in the lower 50s. By the fourth quarter, expect a clear sky, a light west wind under 10 MPH, and temperatures down in the middle and upper 40s. We should see widespread upper 30s with a chance of some patchy frost by Saturday morning (especially in the usual cold spots!)
