Rainfall Progress Report

Posted on: 12:31 pm, October 12, 2012, by

As of 11:30, rain showers are continuing to affect much of the Tennessee Valley with moderate to heavy rain and occasional lightning and thunder. This activity is moving southeast, and the orientation of the showers is creating a train of rain where some locations have been getting multiple round of rainfall while others have remained dry.

The highest rainfall totals have been in Southern Middle Tennessee and a few spots in far North Alabama, where many areas have picked up well over an inch. Many areas, mainly in the Shoals, have not seen a drop!

Radar estimated rainfall totals over the past 12 hours.

There has been an overall, very gradual, diminishing trend for the rainfall (even though it really doesn’t seem like it in many communities), and we expect the rain to wind down over the next few hours. The short range models suggest we’ll be almost rain free by 3pm, although showers could persist a bit longer. We do expect high school football games dry, but the many fields will be sloppy!
