College Football This Weekend
Last night, I wrote about the potential for some severe storms in Missouri this weekend that could impact Alabama fans (and Mizzou fans) traveling to Columbia for Saturday’s game. It still looks like it could be stormy at some point Saturday, but the timing of the storms is still a little uncertain.
We do expect a round of rain and some thunderstorms in the morning, and more storms will come in late in afternoon and evening. In both cases, some storms could be strong or severe; here’s the latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center for Saturday. Note that there is no threat of severe weather in the South; this is all a Great Plains/Midwest issue:
And here’s the probability of severe weather from SPC; a 30% highlight on Day 3 indicates a high level of confidence in the threat of severe storms:

The rest of the games around here will be dry on Saturday; there is no risk of severe weather anywhere around the SEC except for the Alabama-Missouri game:
Auburn @ Ole Miss – 11:21 AM Saturday, Oxford, Miss. – It’s going to be a nice Saturday for football when Auburn travels to Oxford to meet up with Ole Miss on their homecoming. Temperatures will range from around 75º at kick off to 82º in the fourth quarter. There is a tiny risk of a shower or two, but most of the day will be rain-free in North Mississippi. It could get breezy at times with a gusty south-southeast wind at 15-25 MPH.
Alabama @ Missouri – 2:30 PM Saturday, Columbia, Missouri – There is a risk of some strong and severe storms in Mid-Missouri on Saturday. If you are traveling up that way, be sure you stay aware of the situation. Gametime temperatures will be in the lower 80s around 2:30 PM, and the chance of storms will increase as the game goes on. It will be breezy through the game ahead of the storms; expect wind gusts as high as 30 MPH. We will post updates on the forecast for the Mizzou game tonight and tomorrow on Valleywx.com.
Tennessee @ Mississippi State – 8:00 PM Saturday, Starkville, Miss. – There is a small chance of showers (about 20%) during the game in Starkville Saturday night. The breeze will settle down some in the evening; wind still could play a small factor in the game with a steady breeze at 10 to 15 MPH from the south. Temperatures will fall from the low-70s at kick off to around 69º by the end of the game.
Alabama A&M vs. Alcorn State – 1 PM Saturday, Louis Crews Stadium – It’s homecoming for the undefeated Alabama A&M Bulldogs, and the weather will serve up a nice environment for football! Temperatures will top out around 77º on Saturday afternoon with a wind from the southeast averaging 7-14 MPH with some higher gusts. No rain is expected in Huntsville Saturday.
UNA vs. Valdosta State – 6:00 PM Saturday, Braly Stadium – A nice Saturday will turn mostly cloudy in the evening in Florence. Temperatures around 80º at kick off will fall to around 70º by the fourth quarter. There is a 10% chance of a shower during the game, and just like most other games around the South, the wind could play a role: south-southeast at about 10-20 MPH.
