Briefly Warming Before the Next Cold Front

Today’s official high in Huntsville was 80º; Muscle Shoals reached 81º this afternoon. There is some even warmer air poised to move into the Tennessee Valley tonight and tomorrow. As it does, look for temperatures to be a little less chilly late tonight! We’re expecting lows in the 50s by early Friday morning, and daytime highs on Friday under a fully-sunny sky will warm all the way into the mid-80s.

Warm air hangs around through Saturday, but as a cold front surges south into the Tennessee Valley Saturday evening, much cooler air will arrive again! Temperatures will drop for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday; the full Seven Day Forecast as well as some detailed football forecasts are always available on WHNT.com Weather!

We have been talking a lot lately about “normal” or “average” temperatures and how we compare to that. An “average” temperature is the climatological average over the past 30 years. Add up all of the high and low temperatures in a 30-year period for a given date like September 20th, divide by 30, and you’ll get the average high and low. Today’s average happens to be the following in Huntsville: high of 83º, low of 61º.

In the Fall, overnight lows are often the biggest indicator of how “cool” it’s going to feel. Honestly, as long as the sun is shining brightly, there is not much difference in 75 and 80 degrees, but those early morning temperatures can get quite chilly!

Here’s how our forecast lows compare to the average for the next seven days:
