Heavy Thunderstorms in Progress

If we happen to get a Tornado Warning in the WHNT News 19 viewing area, we will suspend blog operations while we make sure you are able to get the latest information on WHNT-TV and on the Live Alert 19 app. In the event of a warning, the latest information will be found on our social media accounts.

There are a number of heavy storms already in progress around North Alabama and Southern Tennessee. A wind gust of about 60 MPH was reported from a storm in Killen in Lauderdale County around 3:20 PM, so these storms mean business.

Some of them could go into rotation, and there is a small chance that some storms could produce tornadoes. We are in a Tornado Watch until 10 PM, so be sure you stay in touch with us here at WHNT News 19 for the latest on any developing severe weather situations.

Just a reminder, a WATCH means the atmosphere’s conditions are right for severe storms that might produce tornadoes; a WARNING means a storm is likely producing a tornado. The one to pay close attention to is the WARNING; that’s when we start getting specific about communities and counties. Right now, it’s a broad threat for the entire Tennessee Valley.
