Weakening Storms; Watch Trimmed
Storms have been weakening some as they progress east into the eastern valleys, with currently no severe thunderstorm warnings in place. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8:00 pm has been trimmed and now only includes; Jackson, Marshall, DeKalb, Etowah, Cherokee in northeast Alabama and some counties southwest, just east of Birmingham. Franklin and Marion counties in Tennessee and counties east and north of Chattanooga in Tennessee are still under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch as well. Lightning intensity has decreased in the storms, with gusty wind and heavy rain being the main concern. Below is the latest radar update.
As we progress throughout the rest of the afternoon will likely see a lull in the activity, behind this first line of storms, before more showers and storms may be possible as the cool front approaches. Though this first round of rain and clouds has stabilized our air mass and storms may struggle to develop or gain strength due to limited instability. With all that considered, there is the possibility for a second round of showers and a few storms, with the best chance for stronger storms in northwest Alabama. Still stay alert and keep your rain gear handy!
