Mid-Morning Update- Thunderstorms Shifting East
Thunderstorm activity is now most concentrated in the eastern portions of the Tennessee Valley – namely in Jackson(AL) and Franklin(TN) counties. These storms are moving northeast at a general speed of 20mph and are producing frequent lightning.
This activity is associated with a short-wave in the mid-levels of the atmosphere. As it transitions east, this round of showers and thunderstorms will shift east with it. Many areas may see lull in thunderstorm activity for several hours, and some may stay dry for the rest of the day, but more development is expected this afternoon.
Some storms may produce strong winds and a few Severe Thunderstorm warnings may be issued throughout the afternoon, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated.
