T.D. Five is now Tropical Storm Ernesto

The National Hurricane Center has upgraded TD #5 to Tropical Storm Ernesto as of the 5 PM EDT advisory. More on Ernesto from NHC: Public Advisory.

Ernesto is not in a particularly great environment for rapid intensification, and the forecast models seem to be handling this fairly well:

As you can see, most of the guidance suggests this will not become a “major” storm; and at least for the next five to seven days, there is no threat to the Gulf or Atlantic Coasts of the United States. If you have beach plans this weekend or early next week, all you will have to worry about is the risk of a few scattered storms in the afternoons on the beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida.
