An Update on Thursday Storm Chances
An upper-level disturbance is moving toward the Valley this morning from the Southern Plains.
Showers and storms will be possible this morning through the early afternoon, but the better chances arrive mid-afternoon, peak during the early to mid evening, and may last through part of the night.
There is the possibility of severe weather with these storms with the main threats being hail and wind. The Storm Prediction Center has included the entire Tennessee Valley in a “Slight Risk” area but the greatest risk looks to be west of I-65.
The probability images above indicate the odds that severe wind/hail (>58mph/>1″) will occur within 25 miles of any point through tonight.
A cold-front will move in sometime tonight through the morning hours. How many storms fire on this front and how strong they will be is still in question, so you should consider heavy thunderstorms a possibility during the overnight hours.
